Ryanair this week announced significant expanison of two of its MRO facilities in Glasgow Prestwick, Scotland and Madrid, Spain as fleet grows from 650 to 800 aircraft and to 300 million passengers by 2034. The carirer announced a £40 million expansion of its maintenance facility at Prestwick Airport, which will see the construction of a new 11,938 sqm 4-bay heavy maintenance hangar and additional component workshops.

This major development will expand Ryanair’s existing Prestwick operation from 6 to 10 bays, making it Ryanair’s largest heavy maintenance hangar, and further strengthening Prestwick’s position as a key aircraft maintenance and training hub within Ryanair’s network.

Ryanair, also inaugurated its new €25 million maintenance centre at Madrid Barajas Airport , the largest in the Ryanair network. The 22,000 m² MRO facility capacity for 7 aircraft, 22,000 m² state-of-the-art facility, bringing its total capacity to 8 aircraft lines of maintenance in Madrid, located in the airport’s industrial area, will create 700 high-skill jobs, including engineers, mechanics, and support roles, further strengthening Spain and Madrid’s position as a leading hub in European aviation.

Ryanair is one Spain’s biggest foreign investors and a key contributor to tourism and industry. The airline carries 62 million passengers annually in Spain, a fleet of 109 aircraft across 11 bases, two maintenance centres, a recently commissioned crew training facility, and Ryanair Labs in central Madrid. Ryanair’s total investment in Spain now stands at €11 billion.
