In an LinkedIn post Brazil Ireland Chamber of Commerce recognized the Irish Parliament has passed legislation, approved by both the Dáil and the Seanad that will empower the Government to amend or remove the long-standing 32-million-passenger cap at Dublin Airport, subject to presidential signature and a required environmental assessment. The reform is intended to give the airport greater flexibility to accommodate future growth and to strengthen Ireland’s position as an international gateway.
Brazil Ireland Chamber of Commerce stated “For the Brazil–Ireland business community, this is a significant development. While the legislation does not create new air routes or guarantee a direct Brazil–Ireland flight, it removes one of the structural constraints that has long limited Dublin Airport’s future expansion. As demand continues to grow, increased airport capacity creates more favourable conditions for airlines to evaluate new long-haul connections. Improved air connectivity has the potential to support trade, investment, tourism, education and business mobility, further strengthening the relationship between Brazil and Ireland.”
According to data approximately 140,000 passengers travelled between Ireland and Brazil in 2024 using connecting flights, demonstrating the strength of the market and the potential for direct connectivity.
