Avianca added two former Irish Norwegian Boeing 787s as a key part of the carrier’s strategy to simplify fleet and expand international route network.
In October 2021 Avianca announced it selected the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft as its only widebody aircraft type for long haul flights, supporting the airline’s current and future route and capacity needs and to drive efficiency and profitability with a reduced environmental footprint.
Avianca CFO Rohit Philip, said “One of Avianca’s strategic objectives is simplifying its fleet while increasing efficiency; selecting the 787-8 as the airline’s single aircraft type for long-haul flights is an important step towards this goal. Thanks to open and constructive dialogues with Boeing, Rolls-Royce, lessors and financial institutions, we are proud to be able to confirm that we will continue to fly the Dreamliner, an exceptional aircraft that given its capabilities, features, efficiency, and comfort is the best solution for our company and our customers.”
N799AV Boeing 787-8 msn 34796 delivered Stockholm Arlanda to Medellin 4 February on lease from UMB Bank and painted in special “Unidos por la Biodiversidad” colours. The aircraft was delivered as EI-LNE to Norwegian Long Haul at Dublin 5 May 2014 named ‘Roald Amundsen’.
N800AV Boeing 787-8 msn 36526 delivered Glasgow Prestwick to Medellin 17 July on lease from UMB Bank routing over Dublin as per Flightradar24. The aircraft was delivered as EI-LNH to Norwegian Long Haul at Dublin 15 April 2015 named ‘H.C. Andersen’.
