In a press release dated 6 March, China Eastern Airlines (CEA) outlined plans to optimise its international route network in 2026, as the carrier seeks to strengthen global connectivity and reinforce the role of its Shanghai hub. “Efforts will be focused on expanding its presence in such markets as Europe, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Central Asia, as well as in Australia and New Zealand,” the airline said.

The airline said the strategy will focus on enhancing its international network through the launch of new routes, increased flight frequencies and the resumption of selected services that were previously suspended. According to the carrier, expansion efforts will target key growth markets across Europe, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and Central Asia, as well as Australia and New Zealand.

As part of the plan, China Eastern intends to open a number of new international routes from its primary hub at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Proposed destinations include Mumbai, Dublin, Cheongju, Manado, Surabaya, Tbilisi and Ulaanbaatar. No start dates where announced for Dublin route with media speculation of a twice weekly service commencing in June 2026.
