Dublin Airport handles North Atlantic diversions - IrishAero - Irish Aviation Research Institute

Due to Ireland’s geographic position on global great circle route AirNav Ireland’s Area Control Centre in Shannon handles over 90% of all air traffic on the North Atlantic. This equates to approximately 1,400 -1,500 aircraft transiting Irish Airspace every 24 hours during the peak summer months east and westbound on North Atlantic Tracks depending on weather conditions etc.

Over last week Dublin Airport handled five North Atlantic medical diversions

A6-ECI Boeing 777-31H(ER) msn 35580 Emirates Airlines ‘UAE1L’ Athens to New York JFK Sunday 21 April.

TC-JJK Boeing 777-3F2(ER) msn 40711 Turkish Airlines ‘THY7’ Istanbul to Washington Dulles Saturday 20 April.
