To meet the surge in demand for Christmas travel, Turkish Airlines deployed its Boeing 787-9 aircraft on the Istanbul-Dublin route on Saturday, 21 December. Flight THY1977/8, traditionally operated by an Airbus A321neo, was instead serviced by the 300-seat Boeing 787-9, offering 30 Business Class and 270 Economy Class seats. The 787 deployment comes as part of the airline’s strategy to accommodate increased holiday traffic on its popular European routes.
In addition to adapting to peak seasonal demand, Turkish Airlines has been expanding its global network. On 29 November, the airline celebrated a significant milestone with the launch of its second Australian destination, Sydney. This new service connects Istanbul to Sydney via Kuala Lumpur, marking the airline’s continued growth as it reaches a total of 351 destinations across six continents.
The Sydney route is operated by an Airbus A350-900, renowned for its long-haul comfort. The aircraft features 32 flatbed Business Class seats and 297 Economy Class recliners. With a flight duration of 19 hours and a 9,300-mile route, this service is now Turkish Airlines’ longest-ever flight. The Sydney service will operate four times a week.
