Polish ATC Agency PANSA and Ryanair Group announce collaboration - IrishAero - Irish Aviation Research Institute

In an Linkedin post dated 22 November Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PANSA) and Ryanair Group airlines Buzz and Ryanair DAC announced signature of an agreement on the exchange of training experience. As part of the cooperation, Polish air traffic controllers will be allowed to accompany Ryanair Group flight crews in the cockpit of aircraft, while Ryanair pilots will receive training in air traffic management at PANSA operations centre.

The aim of the cooperation is to improve the safety and efficiency of the Polish ATM system by building a mutual understanding of the needs of pilots and controllers.

Buzz CEO Michał Kaczmarzyk, said “As the largest airline in Poland, we perfectly understand the key role that Polish air traffic controllers play in our operations. We are committed to a large exchange of experience between controllers and pilots whose cooperation and communication skills determine the safety of flights.”

PANSA CEO Magdalena Jaworska-Maćkowiak, said “The primary purpose of the familiarisation flights is to increase air traffic controllers’ comprehensive awareness of the cockpit environment and rules, as well as to share experiences with the flight crew. Sometimes insignificant, even minor details of the pilots ‘work can change the optics of ATCOs, therefore such trainings measurably increase the effectiveness of air traffic management.”

Ryanair DAC Chief Operation Officer, Neal McMahon said “We look forward to working with Polish air traffic controllers. We hope this project will improve our efficiency and our punctuality.”

As part of the agreement, PANSA air traffic controllers (ATCOs) and licensed trainee air traffic controllers (S-ATCOs) will carry out familiarisation flights, organised by Ryanair Group. Familiarisation flights take place in the presence of the pilot and first officer and provide a unique opportunity to observe pilots in the performance of their duties.
