Icelandic carrier Play Airlines has announced the launch of its first route to Canada and fifth in North America from Keflavik to Toronto Hamilton International commencing 23 June operating daily using a mix of Airbus A320neo and Airbus A321neo aircraft.

The carrier stated “The addition of Toronto to our network is the natural next step for PLAY, as the success of our other North American destinations has exceeded expectations.”

The flight is optimized at Play’s Keflavik hub to enable connections to and from 15 European destinations including London, Paris, Berlin, Copenhagen, Dublin, Brussels, and Stockholm.

PLAY CEO Birgir Jónsson said “Travellers around the world are hungry to venture to new destinations and recent data shows that 73 per cent of global travellers want vacations outside of their comfort zone. I have been eagerly anticipating the launch of ticket sales for flights to Canada, as it will be a major market for us at PLAY. Our services in North America have been met with great success, and I am excited to be able to offer more people the opportunity to travel between North America, Iceland, and Europe at affordable prices.”

Dublin previously had a direct connection to Toronto Hamilton in 2005 served by Flyglobespan and over a decade later in 2018 Norwegian Airlines re-established the connection.

Hamilton Airport is located between Toronto and nearby Niagara Falls, about 75 kilometres southwest, or an hour’s drive from, Toronto’s City Centre and main Pearson International Airport.
