Italian carrier ITA Airways October debuted its new Irish registered Airbus A220-300 fleet from Rome Fiumicino base operating routes to Geneva (GVA), Genoa (GOA), Naples (NAP), Zurich (ZRH) on Sunday 16th October. Two of four aircraft aircraft Airbus A220-300s entered service registered EI-HHI msn 55168 and EI-HHJ msn 55176 in interim “Born To Be Sustainable” livery. The third and fourth aircraft registered EI-HHK msn 55177 and EI-HHL msn 55180 are currently in Naples (NAP), pending entry to service.

According to site Planespotters.net the A220-300s where ordered by Air Lease Corporation (ALC) intended for Russian carrier Azimuth Airlines , but not taken up and subsequently allocated to ITA Airways.

The aircraft will be deployed from its Milan Line and Rome FCO hubs on a mix of domestic and international routes to Geneva, Genoa, Munich, Naples, Turin and Zurich. The third and fourth aircraft

The Airbus A220 is a very efficient platform in 100-150 sea market, enabling 25% cost advantage per seat compared to previous generation aircraft and fuel burn per seat and CO2 vs previous generation aircraft, with Noise footprint area up to 50% smaller than previous generation aircraft, with 50% fewer NOx emissions than CAEP/6 standards.
