Ireland’s position in the global aviation industry this week has been further cemented with a number of significant announcements this week , as an Island nation, we punch well above our weight when it comes to aviation.

A look back at this week’s announcements shows why…..

Irish aircraft-leasing firms placed $11 Billion (€9.87bn) of orders at the Paris Airshow.

Tuesday 16th June: AerCap, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, is formally headquartered in the Netherlands and managed from Dublin and Shannon, placed an order for 100 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in deal valued at $10.7 Billion at list prices.

Dublin-headquartered SMBC Aviation Capital under leadership of CEO Peter Barrett order 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8s in a deal worth $1.07 billion at list prices.

Irish based leasing firms Avolon, AerCap and SMBC Aviation Capital have ordered a total of 210 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and budget carrier Ryanair has 100 Boeing 737 MAX 200 on order plus 100 options.

Wednesday 17th June: Dublin Airport welcomed Thomson Airways 787 Dreamliner for the first time to Ireland.  The visit was to celebrate the launch of two long-haul routes to Cancun (Mexico) and Montego Bay (Jamaica) direct from Dublin Airport during summer 2016 and to showcase the aircraft to the travel industry.

Thursday 18th June:Bombardier Aerospace CS300 commercial aircraft C-FFDK arrived at George Best Belfast City Airport following a thrilling world debut at the 2015 International Paris Air Show for a demonstration at Bombardier’s wing facility where the aircraft wings are manufactured and assembled.

Friday 19th June: International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) published it’s Recommended Cash Offer for Aer Lingus Group plc.

Saturday 20th June: Dublin Airport welcomed Ethiopian Airlines new service three times weekly Boeing 787 service  from Addis Ababa to Dublin and on to Los Angeles. This is the first time the three continents of Africa, Europe and North America are directly connected with one airline through Dublin Airport.
