First announced at Travelmedia.ie US Summer Soiree held in the Shelbourne Hotel on 12 July by United Airlines Country Sales Manager (Ireland & N Ireland) Martina Coogan during a presentation was plans to return the 777 service to the Irish market.

To this effect the carrier reinstated its Boeing 777-200(ER) service on Washington Dulles to Dublin route from 1st August, replacing Boeing 767-400(ER) capacity on the route increasing capacity by 25% . The first 777  service UAL127/6 was operated by N78001 msn 27577 touching down in Dublin at 1014 local.

On the 17 May United Airlines announced FAA has cleared 52 Pratt & Whitney PW4000-powered Boeing 777s to fly again after they were grounded for engine issue since February 2021. The airline plans bring its Boeing 777-200 capacity gradually as each aircraft is signed off to return to service, enabling the carrier to incrementally increase capacity.
