Shannon Airport celebrated a milestone year in 2024, achieving its highest passenger numbers since 2009. The airport welcomed over 2.1 million passengers, marking a 7% increase compared to 2023.
Mary Considine, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, highlighted the airport’s economic significance: “We are more than just an airport; we are a catalyst for tourism, trade, and economic growth. Our Group’s economic impact generates almost €4 billion for the national economy and supports over 20,000 jobs.”
The growth was fuelled by strong performance across 33 routes to 11 countries, including Delta’s return to the New York JFK route and expanded frequencies. Over 200,000 additional seats on European, UK, and US destinations enhanced connectivity, driving increased tourism and business travel.
Shannon Airport maintained its position as Ireland’s top airport brand in the RED C Brand Reaction Index (BRII) 2024 and earned the Aviation Customer Focus Achievement award at the Aviation Industry Awards. These achievements underscore Shannon Airport’s critical role in Ireland’s economic and aviation landscape.
