Ryanair has announced it’s to close two routes from Shannon Airport to Liverpool effective 4th November and Las Palmas effective 28th October reducing its weekly flight frequencies from 26 to 22. Ryanair Spokesman Stephen McNamara told Clare FM that the move is being made ‘due to high costs at Shannon’.
The Las Palmas-Shannon route termination formed part of wider cuts announced in the Canary Islands on 22nd July. Ryanair has a single Shannon based Boeing 737-800 operating nine routes.
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary on the annoucement of Q1 Results said “We continue to see significant opportunities to grow across Europe as many airports aggressively compete to attract Ryanair’s traffic growth” (Ryanair 30th July 2012).
