Aer Lingus 8th Airbus A330 registered EI-EWR named “St Thomas” leased from AerCap entered service on Thursday 21st May operating EIN139 from Dublin to Boston after an extensive cabin modification programme and installation of new ‘Flat Bed’ business class seats at Sabena Technics in Bordeaux.
EI-EWR Airbus A330-202 construction number 330 was originally delivered to Aer Lingus on 9th May 2000 named “St Laurence O Toole/Lorcan O Tuathai” ex test registration F-WWKV until end of lease in 2009, as a result of global economic crisis when long-haul routes to Los Angeles and San Francisco where terminated with aircraft returned to lessor ILFC.
The aircraft was cancelled from Irish register on 13th August 2009 to Batavia as PK-YVI. On 19th March 2013 it was re-registered to Calliope Ltd and cancelled to 26th August same year to Air Asia X as 9M-XAD.
On 29th January 2015 it was re-registered as EI-EWR and changed ownership from Calliope Ltd to Aer Lingus Ltd on 24th March 2015.
The addition of an eight aircraft during the summer 2015 season will allow the commencement of a new four times per week service between Dublin and Washington, as well as an increase in frequency on the Dublin to Orlando route from three to four services per week and an increase in frequency on the Dublin to San Francisco route from five services per week to daily.
In Summer 2015 Aer Lingus long-haul will operate a core fleet of eight A330s and three B757s, Aer Lingus will also deploy a Omni Air International Boeing 767-200ER on an ACMI contract during the peak 12 weeks operating from Shannon to Boston.
