German Air Force Airbus A321-231 15+04 (MSN 1214) visited Dublin on Tuesday, 28 July, transporting German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for meetings with the Irish Government as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
According to Planespotters, the aircraft was originally delivered to Lufthansa in April 2000 as D-AISE, carrying the name Neustadt a. d. Weinstraße. After 18 years in commercial service, the A321 was sold to the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) in September 2018 before entering military service the following month as 15+04 (formerly allocated military serial 98+01).
The Luftwaffe operates a fleet of three Airbus A321 aircraft within its Executive Transport Fleet, based at Cologne Bonn Airport. The fleet comprises one standard A321-200, 15+04, alongside two newer A321LR aircraft operated by the 1st Air Transport Squadron.
